Bamboo Terries

Made in the UK of silky soft white bamboo terry, with overlocked edges, in a choice of 50cm or 60cm (approx) sizes, these luxuriously absorbent yet slim terry squares are ideal for economy, faster drying than shaped nappies yet are not at all bulky.

Bamboo has hardly any impact on the environment; it thrives naturally without the use of pesticides, and is a sustainable crop. Bamboo fibre has a soft and silky feel, remaining soft on washing even in hard water, is naturally antibacterial and it holds its shape well on washing. As it is more absorbent weight for weight than cotton, these nappies are not as thick as cotton nappies yet are very absorbent, meaning they are not bulky as one would normally associate with cotton terry nappies.

These terries are lovely and silky, our only concern is that due to the soft silkyness they do need holding in place while you fasten a little more than a cotton terry nappy!

Care should be taken with bamboo nappies to not wash above 60, or dry on top of a radiator or tumble dry too hot as the fibre will tend to 'cook' a bit and the pile becomes more flat and will loose its ability to be Nappi Nippa'd easily.

Bamboo Prefolds Bamboo Prefolds

These prefolds have two layers of lovely soft white bamboo terry fabric on the side panels and three layers on the middle panel. They are an excellent night nappy as bamboo absorbs 60% more water than cotton, so are relatively slim for the absorbency. These also make excellent stuffers for pouched nappy systems.

Bamboo has hardly any impact on the environment; it thrives naturally without the use of pesticides. Bamboo fabric is antibacterial by nature, even after 100 washes the bamboo fibre still possesses its anti bacterial properties.

These are one of the softest, silkiest nappies and absorbent prefolds on the market.

Bamboo Loveable by Nature Babies Bamboo Loveable by Nature Babies

The Bamboo Loveable is a neat slim nappy that is available either as a two size nappy giving a neat, trim fit or a one size nappy to fit from birth to potty, made in the UK from soft bamboo terry.

The design is only two layers thick, with overlocked seams and an opening at the back into which the detached two layer bamboo booster (plus additional boosting if required) can be stuffed, meaning it is not the slowest to dry of the bamboo nappies we stock.

It can be easily reduced in height by folding the front over outwards to make a smaller nappy for premature/small babies (or twins)

It is elasticated at waist and thigh and fastens neatly with Aplix hook and loop fastening, with an overlap at the waist to give good containment and a trim fit.

Size 1 is to fit from birth to somewhere between 3-9 months or 13-18lb depending on build, this nappy has quite lengthy tabs at the waist, so will expand to fit a fairly wide girth (the tabs are longer than the Bimble).

The larger size, Size 2 is designed to fit from 13-35lb, but can be folded down at the front to reduce the height to be used as a birth to potty nappy. The generous width of the tabs at the waist allow great flexibility of fit for chubbier babies.

    Bambeasy by Easy Peasy Bambeasy by Easy Peasy

    Bambeasy is a nappy made in the UK by Easy Peasy Nappies to the same style as the Bimble and Bumble in soft long loop Bamboo terry (90% bamboo, 10% polyamide for strength), with a 100% polyester fleece inner layer.

    The nappy is two layers with a two layer flap that folds out to aid the drying process, and a fleece inner layer under which the flap can tuck.

    The size 0 (pictured previous page) is a little nappy is ideally suited to newborns and fits up to about 15lb (6.5kg) max, and can be easily reduced in height buy folding the front over outwards to make a smaller nappy for premature/small babies (or twins). Designed to fit underneath baby clothes it is slim and close fitting, as well as reasonably good on containment, yet the bamboo affords better absorbency although slimmer than the cotton terry Bimble. This is a great first nappy for newborns as it is so slim. Afterwards progress to the Size 2 or another one size nappy, or to a larger sized bulkier nappy with more absorbency. The nappy is secured with Nappi Nippas or pins (available separately), or is available with poppers. The nippa version will give best containment.

    Suggested wraps for pre-term/lightweight babies include newborn So Simple Snap, XS Rikki, XS Popo, for all other babies So Simple Snap, Motherease Rikki, Air Flow, Popo, Vento, Nature Babies, Imse Soft or Organic wraps, any pull on pant.

    The Birth to Potty (BTP) Bambeasy (pictured left) is designed as a birth to potty nappy and is made to the same style as the Bumble, having a removable snap in booster. Once removed, the front of the Bambeasy may be poppered down inside the fleece inner lining to reduce the height to make a smaller nappy to fit from birth. As the bamboo fabric is slimmer than cotton, this makes a less bulky nappy for a newborn, yet will also fit to potty (up to 35lb+/16kg+). Again this is available without fastening for use with a Nappi Nippa, or with popper fastening.

    Suggested wraps include So Simple Snap, Rikki, Air Flow, Popo, Vento, Nature Babies, Litewrap, Bumpy, Imse Soft, any pull on pant, wool or fleece wrap.

    Both these nappies are slower to dry than their cotton variants, however as the seams are oversewn rather than turned and topstitched, and the flaps open out they are quicker to dry than the Bamboozle. These nappies may be tumble dried, although in the interests of longevity it is not recommended that you dry for too long on too hot a heat (over dry) but remove as soon as they are dry, as this can affect the softness of this fabric and may also affect the loop pile for attaching Nappi Nippas to secure.

    Bamboozles by Tots Bots Bamboozles by Tots Bots

    This 'Bamboozle' nappy is made to exactly the same design as the original Tots Bots, but from a short pile bamboo fibre terry, giving a slimmer but very absorbent and more ecofriendly nappy that is light weight and also very, very soft to touch. Bamboo fibre is also a good heat conductor, and coupled with a fleece or wool wrap will make a cool choice for hot weather and overnight.

    Bamboo is very highly eco-friendly. It is easy to cultivate, grows rapidly without the need for chemical pesticides or fertilisers, and is highly biodegradable. Bamboo fibre has naturally antibacterial properties and this fabric has been laboratory tested to confirm its antebacterial properties.

    The criss-cross texture of bamboo creates microscopic openings in the fibres and gives exceptional moisture absorption. This bamboo fibre has been tested and shows that up to 60% more moisture is absorbed, and yet it dries in reasonable speed. However although bamboo is generally quicker than cotton to dry, you'll find the styling of the Tots Bots with turned and stitched seams will tend to trap the moisture a bit, making this a relatively slow drying nappy, slower than regular Tots Bots. The farbic itself is of 90% bamboo loop pile terry, and as with teh majority of terry fabric has a polyester content (10%) in the weave of the backing fabric to give strength and lightness and to aid drying time, and also to retain the appearance of the fabric by preventing the loop pile pulling through

    The nappy is nicely elasticated for a good leakproof fit, however do be aware the terry fabric is not as stretchy as the usual cotton terry of Tots Bots. Bamboozles are available with Aplix hook and loop or popper fastening in the natural colour.

    Care should be taken with bamboo nappies to not wash above 60, or dry on top of a radiator or tumble dry too hot as the fibre will tend to 'cook' a bit and the pile becomes more flat and, if you're folding down and using a Nappi Nippa to secure or have removed the Aplix will loose its ability to be Nappi Nippa'd easily. For this reason the non-Aplix version is now discontinued, however we now also have Popper fastening available too. (+25p) The Size 2 can be folded down outwards at the front and this exposes an inner row of poppers to secure the nappy for a smaller baby.

    Mother-ease One Size Nappy Bamboo Mother-ease One Size Nappy Bamboo
    An extremely popular one size nappy now available in soft bamboo terry which can be adjusted with poppers to fit from new-born to potty training - about 8-32lb, though this will vary according to your baby's build. Can be bulky around the waist on a slim newborn (but remember they grow quickly), equally can be outgrown height or widthwise especially if a tall baby (though the same can be true of most nappies particularly multi-sized ones). You may find that this nappy is extremely trim fitting at around 6m-1 year and express concerns that it will get outgrown - this is quite normal as this is when your baby is at maximum width and should slim down sometimes quite dramatically upon getting mobile (tip do not part with your M wraps even if in XL ones at this point until after your baby has been walking for 3-4 months). However if maternal height is over 5ft 7" and/or you have a history of larger babies and /or later potty training please be prepared that your child may outgrow these in height and you may need to move to larger nappies.

    The absorbency of this nappy is good, there is also a separate inner booster liner - the two parts are available separately, which attaches with poppers for use as required and at nights. The booster will not normally be needed for a newborn, but is usually added in later (say from around 3-4 months) and for nights. Waist and legs are gently elasticised ensuring a snug fit. Practice with the popper system to adjust size may be required before use: full instructions given. The nappy can be fastened together before wrap is put on, making this easier to use for wriggly babies than a pre-fold, however not as easy as an all-in-one. Poppers are harder for toddlers to remove than velcro, however they may also be harder for those with poor eyesight or restricted hand movement or those that just don't get on with poppers to fix!

    Can be washed at up to 60º, and tumble dried on low heat. Being made of Bamboo this version is slow to dry.

    Wraps are required. Suggested wraps include the Mother-ease Rikki (Velcro) or Air Rika (popper) wraps, or the Popo wrap (hook and loop) or Vento (popper). Made in Canada

    Sandys Bamboo Sandys Bamboo

    Very cute and very soft, this nappy is a winner for newborn softness! A truly luxurious silkyshort loop pile terry, with multi position side popper fastenings at waist and thigh allows for a good fit and adjustability. This Canadian nappy is made of 85% bambooknitted stretch terry towelling with 15% polyester (in the base weave of the fabric for longevity and reduction of shrinkage, the pile being soft silky bamboo, so that is next to your baby's skin).

    This nappy is elasticated all round the waist and legs to ensure a good fit. Wash at 60ºC and tumble dry on hot. Line drying is medium/slow due to the extra padding between the legs, which makes this a nice absorbent nappy. You can add boosters for nights as required. The popper fastenings are good at resisting small fingers where velcro doesn't! You may find that the sizing on these is on the small side, and it may be possible to entirely by-pass the L size by progressing directly from Small to XLarge as the XL ('Toddle-ease' ) will usually fit from about 22-24lb (particularly chunkier babies). The newborn XS size is suitable for small or premature babies, particularly those of skinny build: the majority of babies will not need this size.
