New from Tots Bots, their Aplix fastening, Easy Fit One Size All in One nappy. Available in two versions, the quick drying polyester inner Fluffle AIO, and the slower drying, slimmer Bamboo All in One (scroll down for more details and to order the bamboo version).
This nappy will appeal to many people for different reasons. Generally all in ones are slower to dry, however Tots Bots have overcome this by using their popular Fluffle polyester fabric, which is very quick to dry, but for those that don't want a totally synthetic nappy, or want a soft silky fabric that is a bit slimmer for good absorbency and don't mind a longer drying time they offer it in a bamboo version too.
The nappy outer is of the same polyurethane laminated (PUL) polyester fabric as their popular wraps, and has a height adjustment with poppers at the front. This means the nappy front can be poppered down to reduce the height making it suitable from around 9lb-10lb or so depending on build - you may get a few problems with leaks in the early days until baby's thighs have got chubby enough to make a snug seal. Whilst a one size is certainly most economical, there is a compromise on bulk as well as fit for a newborn, and whilst these will be fine for the majority of babies this nappy could get outgrown by tall, larger than average or later potty trained babies. Also being a one size one piece nappy this nappy will get a lot of use and thus wear and tear particularly if they are tumble dried, and so it's unlikely they'll last for a second baby
Inside, Tots Bots innovative team have constructed the All in One in such a way as to avoid the problems of traditional All in Ones. The inside of the PUL outer is lined with a soft stretchy knit polyester, and the absorbent pad is sewn into the polyester about an inch from the edges at the leg - this polyester barrier is to stop any wicking (moisture creeping out at the edges), and also is sewn a bit more than an inch below the waist at the front - this helps stop the fabric rolling outwards at the front (and then leaking). The back of the nappy is nicely elasticated (helps containment at the back), and here the knit polyester fabric is sewn in and left open to form a pouch, into which the absorbent pad is tucked, meaning that for washing and drying this can be opened out to assist drying time,
There are two versions of the Tots Bots Easy Fit All in One - either with a polyester 'Fluffle' absorbent pad (Fluffle is just that, made of the same fabric is the now being discontinued Fluffle nappies: a soft fluffy polyester microfiber) or a silky soft and slim bamboo inner. The absorbent pad itself is one layer thick in the body of the nappy where it is sewn on to the knit polyester, and 2 layers thick at the loose end, meaning that there are a total of 3 layers of fabric. The loose tongue end of the pad is folded in half and stitched together making a pocket within the pad, into which the 2 layer loose bamboo booster (also supplied with the nappy) can be placed - you probably won't need it on the smallest setting. The loose tongue is then tucked inside the nappy between the outer and the sewn in end of the absorbent pad so that the whole thing lies flat - or it could just be folded and laid flat on top without tucking in. By having a loose pad, this means that on washing, the inside of the waterproof layer can be more thoroughly cleaned between the absorbent bit and the waterproof bit, as well as making it easier to dry.
